New Horizons manages a Disability Employment Network (DEN) that is funded by the Department of Education,Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). This service for 100 clients is located in Newcastle. The New Horizons DEN service specialises in supporting people with a mental illness. However, clients with another disability can be considered for service.

The objectives of DEN are:

• To assist people with a disability become job ready

• To obtain and retain a job for these people
• To support the person in their job

The target group is people who:

• have a mental illness
• are receiving a CentreLink benefit
• are referred by Centrelink
• live in the Lower hunter

The services provided include:

• Referral to other services providers in the local community
• Assessment of the barriers to gaining employment
• Assistance with attending interviews and appointments

• Job training and support
