New Horizons for North Coast Indigenous
Community
The Australian Government has allocated $37 million to
fund up to 87 non-profit organisations to support as many as 139
Indigenous communities as part of its reform of the Community
Development Employment Projects (CDEP).
The North Coast region of NSW will receive $450,000 over
three years to fund services in the area.
Stephen Kinkead, CEO of New Horizons Enterprises
Limited, has announced that his organisation has been successful in its
bid to provide Indigenous Community Support Services through its branch
at Tweed Heads South.
“We are committed to delivering high quality services
for the local Indigenous community” Stephen said.
The Community Support Service is focused on providing
equal access to welfare, family, child care, health, housing and legal
services between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous communities.
“We recognise the need to bridge the gap and strengthen
ties between all Australians. We are pleased to have been selected to
support the delivery of services that aim to overcome disadvantage by
connecting our communities” Stephen added.
In recent years New Horizons has been actively seeking
to increase its contribution in the area of Indigenous services.
“The Community Support Service adds to the services we
currently self-fund for Indigenous Australians, which include a Family
Support Service and traineeship program at Lismore, and a young
Indigenous leadership program at Kempsey.” Stephen said.
New Horizons has been providing outreach services in the
North Coast region since 2006. As part of their expansion in the area,
its office will be relocated to larger premises at 2/14 Amber Road Tweed
Heads South.
